Bone Fragments

Stray bone fragments sometimes do appear.  There is nothing to worry about if bone fragments do appear, they generally fall out of their own accord.

However, sometimes they don't fall out because they become trapped in the wound or remain attached to the overlying gum. Sometimes there may even be a small localised infection associated with the wound, like a pimple for example. If this is the case, it's not an emergency, but it does require some attention. Please call us and we will review it and treat as necessary. Treatment usually involves removing the fragment, sometimes with some local anaesthetic. Antibiotics are usually not required.
