Limited Jaw Opening

Occasionally, we see cases of limited jaw opening following dental treatment.
This can be due to trauma to jaw muscles when giving injections, or stretching and irritation of the jaw mscles, tendons, ligaments, or irritation to the jaw joint itself.

The problems may persist for weeks or even months, but usually disappear without treatment.

If this happens to you, the first thing is don't panic. However, you should make an appointment to see us for assessment.

Home physiotherapy is usually the treatment of choice, and we usually recommend the use of alternating heat and cold packs, and ibuprofen to manage any associated pain. A wearning about drug therapy. This for short term use only, and should therefore not be taken over an extended period.
