Pre-Treatment Information

PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO PATIENTS RECEIVING INTRAVENOUS SEDATION

1. NIL BY MOUTH for SIX (6) hours before your appointment.

This means: NO FOOD
NO DRINK
NO WATER

     The previous meal should be light and easily digestible.

     IF YOU EAT OR DRINK WE CANNOT TREAT YOU.
     THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY.

2. IT IS NECESSARY FOR A RESPONSIBLE PERSON TO ESCORT YOU HOME AFTER YOUR TREATMENT, AND STAY WITH YOU FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. DRIVING YOURSELF HOME, GOING HOME IN A TAXI or BUS, UNACCOMPANIED, IS UNACCEPTABLE.

3. Wear a t-shirt. We need easy access to your arms and chest for monitors.

4. Contact lenses must be removed.

5. Nail polish must be removed from the right hand.

6. Do not do anything that requires judgement and responsibility. It is advisable not to drive a motor vehicle for 24 hours after your procedure.

7. Alcohol should not be consumed for 24 hours after treatment.

8. Should you need to cancel the appointment (severe cold or flu) please
give us as much notice as possible.

9. If you have any questions about your treatment, please contact the surgery prior to         your appointment.
